Winning in a Men's World

There are so many powerful women around us today, we   need to pay more attention to the feminine energy and attributes to achieve more success in business.  I'm still surprised to see the statistics of women executives who are on boards or working with big companies, are still low even in 2013.  I saw that just 14.2% of the executives in Fortune 500 companies are women and for me, that is unacceptable.  Yes, I understand that women during pregnancy have to step out of their game for a few years and that slows down their evolution in the company, but afterwards, a woman in her 40's or 50's should have the same opportunity and recognition as a man.

 

Many women and men around the world ask me how I was able to perform in a men's world in three completely different industries and I want to share with you the 3 secrets that I learned in the past 18 years in business.

 

1-  LEARN AND APPLY ENTREPRENEURSHIP FROM A to Z:

In my financial business, I learned so much by attending as many seminars and educational trainings in finances, business, tax shelters, leadership programs as I could find.  Even if I wasn’t able to speak English, I learned in English because I knew the world of business is conducted in English and I needed to learn it no matter what.  I applied at least 1-2 points I learned from each event and incorporated that in my practice for myself and shared them with my 800 clients as much as possible.  Without taking massive action each time, I would never have achieved over 12 business awards and become recognized in the top 10% in my company in all of Canada.

 

2- OVERCOME YOUR FEARS AND ADVERSITY:

Whatever challenge or goal you want to accomplish, you have to get out of your comfort zone and live on the edge, if you want to be on top of your game.  My brain was always wired  this way and that is why I was able to become a Champion Motorcycle Racer in a women's class, but my 3rd place at Daytona against 75 men and 9th overall in a US championship was the culmination for me.   I had to get over myself, learn new skills at 33 years of age, ask for help and overcome all the fears and challenges I had to face.  I know this is an extreme example, but my point is if I can do it, then you can achieve anything that seems impossible in your life.  Initially,  I was doing it just for fun and the desire to win and perform is a question of mindset.  The champion mindset, the focus and discipline to accomplish everything, is a learning skill you need to master, and that is why I have created many programs now to teach this key skill.

 

3- BRANDING YOURSELF:  We all know that people do business with you because of YOU first.  You can have the best product on the planet, the best customer service, but if YOU are not out there, if YOU are not living your brand,  people won’t trust you and you won’t increase your sales.  “You have to use everything you've got,” as my media mentor Jill Lublin says.  For me, the motorcycle racing is my hook, but my business knowledge and experience as well as my musical talents are part of my unique selling proposition in the speaking industry and this is why I was able to share big stages like TED or with Les Brown, T. Harv Eker, Marianne Williamson and many others.  What are your unique strengths: what is your story, your credibility, your essence, your values?  What is everything you've got so we can work on that to brand yourself?  And please, be sure you keep to your commitments and do everything you say you will.

 

These 3 secrets are just a little glimpse to help you reflect on your positioning right now and contemplate how you can improve in those 3 areas.  

 

Exercise of the Month:  Find 2 or 3 stories or experiences you've got in those 3 areas, describe your uniqueness, your strengths and your weaknesses for each point and put all that in your dream book.  You will notice a trend or some insights that will help you to grow and take your next step.
